Berlin Classical Concert Review – Tomáš Jamník + Li-Chun Su – Piano Salon Christophori

Yesterday’s evening concert at the new  location for the concerts of  ‘Piano Salon Christophori’ featured music of Dvorak, Brahms, van Beethoven and Lizst.

The solists were pianist and cello duo of  Tomáš Jamník + Li-Chun Su – who gave wonderfull performances to an enthusiastic Berlin audience.

The cello playing was romantic feeling brilliantly represented by Czech cellist Tomáš Jamník who lives in Berlin. His cello sounded a bit woody on the high notes but the sonerous deep sounds overpowered when it needed to – especially in the Brahms sonata.

Li-Chun Su, playing the very grand and probably largest ever concert grande. …….the very long August Foerster made in 1944, was as ever brilliant and not too loud for the competing cello. She has performed at the Piano salon before and only improves every time I see her and hear her!

The duo gave two generous encores – we hope to see them both play here again soon.

Was a great concert – only caught 2nd half after intermission, but one of the best live venues for pianists and small ensembles.

Not sure if I like the new venue compared to the older ones- they are less intimate.

Time will tell if this place works out. Hope they have a Plan-B in case it does not.
